If i still titled the pages, you know how i would call this one

April 9th, 2018, 8:03 pm

Wait, why is she buying tampons? Do the hybrids still have menstrual cycles despite the fact they can't reproduce at all!?

Oh god what cruel scientist thought that was a good idea!?

April 9th, 2018, 8:31 pm

April 9th, 2018, 8:48 pm

I'm guessing they do have menstrual cycles in spite of being sterile. Either that or they found a few more uses for them.

April 9th, 2018, 9:43 pm

i dont care that mutch about the tampons but that octopus camouflage is too cool

April 9th, 2018, 10:31 pm

Kenno Cola?

Kenno Cola... Heh!

But, yeah, that's messed up that all the hybrids still have to go through the cycle.

April 9th, 2018, 10:56 pm

Ah. So she's a squid AND a kid...

April 9th, 2018, 11:03 pm

Talk about hiding in plain sight. I’m surprised she haven’t thought if integrating into human society.

April 9th, 2018, 11:09 pm

@Guest: That would depend on how long she can maintain the form and how much effort it takes to hold it.

April 9th, 2018, 11:52 pm

@Tanu: Remember that these ladies were soldiers first. They might use the tampons to staunch a bleeding wound.

Current real-world military often put plain condoms over the muzzles of rifles to keep water and dirt out.

April 10th, 2018, 2:40 am

called it!

dude, that color change/camo is awesome. I wonder how long she can hold it? what are the different colors or ways she can change? she maybe my favorite hybrid now.

also kind surprised they all use tampons. though I suppose pads would be a little harder to use on missions.

and while they might not be able to get pregnant, they still need the hormones to grow and develop, and tying the tubes of all the hybrids is still major/minor surgery, so probably better for their bodies to run the course. Considering I don't know the reason why they can't get pregnant, it could be a bunch of reason?

I've liked the octopus and owl of the group, but the octopus is now my new favorite.

April 10th, 2018, 7:12 am

@Spazoid: Except something highly absorbent DOESN'T staunch blood flow. It keeps sucking it up, preventing clotting.

April 10th, 2018, 9:05 am

@Guest: I'm guessing that it takes a lot of energy for October to maintain a more human like form. She started changing back as soon as she was out of the door.

That said, I now understand why Hedron went to the trouble of making Mimic Octopus Hybrids.

April 10th, 2018, 9:18 am

The issue of having to go thru that issue every month is not really linked to the infertility, even if it would have been a good way to cause it. It at least allows the hybrids to keep everything clean inside so that there are less issues with... other problems.

We do not really know the technical side of the DNA modification the Gen 2 and Gen 3 had, but as I commented on comic 348, the 3rd gen most likely ended up to be human compatible. The Gen 2 may just be sterile because they have a different amount of chromosomes (e.g. 47, with an extra chromosome to take care of the animal side of the hybrid, basically an addon). A normalization to 23 Pairs (46 Chromosomes total) may make the Gen 3 compatible.

This means, that the Gen 2 hybrids could have been compatible with the Gen 1 hybrids, but since they do no longer exist, they could not breed and were therefore sterile.

That is Cruel!

Unable to have children, yet they still have their time of the month... that is just plain cruel.

Although isn't it because regular humans are similar enough to their genes to impregnate them? If I remember right (I could very well be wrong, it has been a while), there were male hybrids before, but they were unable to use them because of how unstable they were. I guess because of them naturally wanting to be alpha. That's why there are only female hybrids. So unless there is a male, the only one that can have children is Bunnie.

Unless I am remembering wrong and am thinking of the anime Claymore. I don't know where to check that without having to search through the many pages of the web comic. Although rereading them would be a nice time to spend some free time. :P

April 10th, 2018, 3:05 pm

@Tanu: they're also good for clogging gunshot wounds in a pinch.

April 10th, 2018, 3:17 pm

Being sterile doesn't exclude your from having your monthly hormonal changes, just that your eggs can't be fertilized. I imagine that being a second gen hybrid means that whatever animal you are mixed with would alter your chromosome count in a way similar to why a human can't impregnate a dog or a cat.

Maybe indeed the gen 1 could impregnate the gen 2 if they shared the same secondary species. Its a nice theory but we might never know.

For those complaining for they still having cramps: they are soldiers, the only way to avoid those at all would be hysterectomy, but good luck taking your daily dose of hormone replacements in the middle of the battlefield, let alone maintaining your bone density in the long run.

April 10th, 2018, 3:50 pm

@Kreldor: From my knowledge of owning a little octopus they can stay that way as long as they want.

April 10th, 2018, 3:52 pm

just a thought

just a thought tampons use as combat gauze, aspirin as painkiller and food is just food

April 10th, 2018, 3:54 pm

Fun fact alotta people who are sterile still have normal body functions, a girl who gets her tubes tied or has busted tubes still get visited by the blood fairy.

April 10th, 2018, 5:34 pm

Alternative title: Decoy Octopus

April 10th, 2018, 7:23 pm

Tampons... stop the nosebleeding of oogling boyz...however a nose started to "leak" ^^.
you know, japanese mangas, tentacles and so on....

Would've gone with thick dreadlocks for Ocks hair, maybe Kenno puts up a additional drawing of it >.> *sideglance to Kenno*....?

And she's to sexy to keep the human form ^^.

April 10th, 2018, 9:17 pm

i forget which comic it was...

for The Sims - Buy Mode 1 music!
i ended up getting the rest of that game's soundtrack too!

as for this particular page... wow that makes a lot of sense with the octopus disguises. I thought it'd be dreadlocky for some reason. which would be more of a medusa \ multiple but short tentacled type person.

Tampons and Combat

Tampons are excellent field expedient bandages. Their shape and absorbance makes them ideal for treating puncture wounds, be they from bullets, knives, or what have you. Most front line troops will have a couple in their personal medic kit. Not saying that's what's going on here, but that's where my head went with this.

April 10th, 2018, 11:25 pm

Eh, hormonal cycles have their uses and getting rid of them would require all *kinds* of workarounds for how all the other biochemistry works.

That aside; seems like a bulk buy for just personal use. They're headed towards "civilization" so they don't need to stock up and they have limited space in the can.

Tampons have a number of guerilla uses. Field bandages as mentioned; they're great at clogging pipes; they'll shut down a car just like a bag of sugar (throw it in the gas tank) but at a fraction of the weight to carry around. I'm sure there are others I have forgotten.

Bollix the gas tanks of all the getaway/pursuit cars; plug a few drains to start an unexpected flood; lots of tricks to give the target a bad day in a nice, non-lethal, un-traceable way.

April 11th, 2018, 5:52 am

@Tanu: that was probably to remind them they could still bleed XD

April 11th, 2018, 11:45 am

¡Células epiteliales cromatomórficas de sepia!

April 11th, 2018, 4:36 pm

@OtherSpike: I can't speak for tampons, but menstrual pads can also be used as bandages for large wounds, absorbing a good amount of blood and preventing the wounded person from bleeding out... (Neat trick I learned from a battlefield medic once.)

Come to think of it, tampons might be useful to close up bullet wounds or stab wounds until they can be properly treated...

April 12th, 2018, 1:18 am

Angry woofo

Twinkies and tamps, instead of chocolate and tamps?

April 12th, 2018, 1:25 am

reason why the tampons

They make great plugs for bullet holes and can be used to stop bleeding. Because they are sterile one can shove a tampon into said wound and prevent someone from bleeding out. That is a possible reason why they bought them.

April 13th, 2018, 2:13 am this the chapter where Alpha meets up with Chad Thundercock? Or maybe Dick Kickem?

April 13th, 2018, 7:40 pm

perhaps the original tampon use then?

@OtherSpike: For plugging in bullet holes! combat wounds! soak up the evidence?

April 14th, 2018, 8:32 pm

Adding to the pile of extra uses for the tampons, they are also great as fire kindling. Rip them open, flint+steel and boom, fire.

Still think they have their period tho.

April 18th, 2018, 3:45 am

Stuff can do Two Things

@OtherSpike: That wouldn't be surprising. I can start a fire using a condom full of water. BSA rules! Also, maybe they like doing the thing where you soak them in alcohol and shove them up your butt. Fel thought condoms were "penis clothes" at first, so maybe they don't even know what they're supposed to be used for.
